We have received an official qualification certificate from EDF for "non-safety"
ZAT is a leading European supplier of control systems for the nuclear power engineering. As part of the preparation of the tender for the completion of the Temelín NPP, we also established close cooperation with the French company Framatome (formerly Areva), which is majority owned by EDF. This company is one of the three bidders in the tender for the completion of the new nuclear power sources at the Dukovany NPP.
Long-term cooperation
Thanks to our company's modern manufacturing facilities and know-how in the nuclear power engineering, we signed a contract with Framatome in October 2012 to supply 58 KCF system cabinets for 20 nuclear units of eight nuclear power plants operated by Electricité de France S.A. (EDF). The project is still underway with a completion date of 2024.
The next step in the partnership was the signing of a Memorandum of Future Cooperation (MoC) between ZAT and EDF at the WNE 2021 (World Nuclear Exhibition) in Paris. Our company is extremely interested in participating in the completion of new nuclear power plants in the Czech Republic. We own one of the most advanced control systems in the nuclear power engineering on the market, meeting the most demanding safety conditions according to the requirements of the European regulatory authorities. The Memorandum declared the interest of both parties to deepen cooperation. The involvement of our company among EDF's qualified suppliers confirms this effort.
Challenging audit procedures
As a condition for ZAT to be classified as a qualified supplier, it must be audited by EDF UTO, a company within the EDF Group specialising in supplier audits.
"We started the process of preparing for the audit by EDF UTO in 2018. After the implementation of the requirements by the contracting authority, we completed the first part of the audit in September 2021, which was conducted at a distance due to pandemic measures. In November 2022, the second part was already held at ZAT's premises in Příbram, when we were successfully audited for the supply of non-safety systems, and at the end of May we officially received a certificate of qualification from EDF specifically for non-safety," says Karel Stočes, ZAT's Sales and Marketing Manager for Nuclear power engineering.
According to Stočes, the successfully completed audits confirm ZAT's competence in supplying control systems in the nuclear power engineering. "Our goal is to be a qualified supplier also for the supply of safety systems. We will apply for this audit to EDF UTO in the near future," adds Karel Stočes.
The signing of the Memorandum with EDF and the successful audit with EDF UTO are important steps for future cooperation with EDF on projects within the French and Czech nuclear power industry.
